legendary Jolly Alderman is up for lease
a legendary Vancouver bar, considered a casualty of the Canada Line construction, is up for lease.
the doors closed on the Jolly Alderman, located at 2837 Cambie St. — under the Plaza 500 Hotel and kitty corner to City Hall — in 2008, and it never reopened.
at the time, it was reported that a redesign to link it to FigMint Restaurant was underway.
as winter dragged on, clerks at the neighbouring Firefly Fine Wines and Ales told The Publican that the Alderman would reopen in the spring.
the plan was, in keeping with its roots, to redesign the Alderman into an upscale sports bar, with a focus on food.
spring turned to summer, summer to fall, fall to winter, and now the Alderman is up for lease.
Colliers International, the company in charge of the property, advertises the space’s proximity to the Canada Line (three blocks north on Cambie and Broadway) among its amenities.
surely having Firefly — and their dazzling selection of microbrews and craft beers — next door should also be considered a bonus.
the size of the space is 3,420 square feet, and at $40 per square foot a year, the basic cost of the annual lease is $136,800.
the Bikram’s Yoga space on the other side of Firefly is also available for lease.
the broker is Derick Fluker, 604-681-4111 or 604-661-0805.
