Vancouver police asking public to leave the liquor at home

Vancouver police are asking Olympic partiers to leave the booze at home. But The Publican — and even VPD — knows that it’s a-okay to drink in public, as long as it’s not visible.

Public drinking is a popular pastime with police as well. how do the boys in blue get away with it? put your drink in a plastic or cardboard cup, as many Granville and Robson street revellers are doing. (never ones let the law stop their pursuit of a good time, many of the regulars at Vancouver’s 24-hour Olympic bar are rumoured to be police officers.)

Unfortunately, some people just don’t get it. The Publican witnessed a few carousers having police ask them to dump their beer of choice — Molson Canadian — out into the gutter. Police then searched the sad-sacks’ backpack to see the remainder of the six pack. down the gutter that swill went too.

what it comes down to, dear readers, is that nobody likes to see beer — bad or good — go to waste, not even the police.

so make their jobs a lot easier, and make your Olympic celebrations more celebratory: grab a Big Gulp, Starbucks, whatever your poison — and fill the cup with your booze of choice, even Canadian if that’s all you can get your hands on.

(it shouldn’t need to be said, but The Publican reminds you to be safe, plan a safe ride home. and don’t go getting pie-eyed: just because you can consume a lot doesn’t mean you should.)
